DEVELOPMENT PROPOSITION
A defunct government housing site was offered for redevelopment as affordable family homes.
HOW WE RESHAPED THE VISION
The completed site delivered 9 well resolved suburban homes, and stands as a successful urban renewal outcome, with impressive 'triple bottom line' returns, as befits a project which unashamedly places social outcomes as the lead measure.
FOR THIS PROJECT
- The site was a very steep site: We capitalised on the slope by incorporating necessary site retaining structure into the dwelling structure. This achieved large service areas for each dwelling, for little additional cost to each dwelling.
- The site overlooks a green reserve: By manipulating how each building addressed the site, we achieved a high yield development in which each dwelling still enjoys generous outdoor areas and excellent view corridors.
- Local stakeholders anticipated that the development would negatively impact on their neighbourhood. We ensured that the project was an asset to the neighbourhood by ensuring a development of high standard. It has attracted local community praise for its contribution to the street.
