Reshape Development extends our congratulations to Unison Housing, the City of Melbourne, and Homes Victoria for their exceptional work on the 'Make Room' project, which won the UDIA Victoria Affordable Housing Award and was honoured as Project of the Year. We are honoured to have been part of this groundbreaking initiative, leading a dedicated team of professionals in transforming an under-utilised commercial building into 50 studio apartments for individuals experiencing homelessness. Make Room exemplifies the power of innovative partnerships and design, with on-site support services and a rooftop garden creating a vibrant community space. This ambitious adaptive reuse project is a shining example of how collaboration between public and private sectors can provide impactful solutions to homelessness, offering a replicable model for future affordable housing projects in cities across the globe.

Make Room by Unison Housing
National Apartment Awards for Excellence
Awards: Pioneering, Judges Award, Civic Leadership and Heritage and Community Culture.
In July 2024, Make Room was honoured with multiple awards at the National Apartment Awards for Excellence. The project, a collaboration between the City of Melbourne, Unison Housing, the Victorian Government, and the philanthropic sector, won the Pioneering, Judges Award, Civic Leadership, and Heritage and Community Culture awards. Reshape Development played a key role as the Development Manager for Make Room. The project involved the re-purposing of a heritage CBD Archive building to provide 50 apartments for individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness, with on-site wraparound support services. These awards were a testament to the collective efforts of the partners in delivering a transformative and impactful project.

Reshape Development was proud to be involved with the Collingwood Yards project, a transformative contemporary arts incubator where community and creativity converge. As part of a passionate team of professionals, we helped bring this visionary space to life. Collingwood Yards, owned and managed by Contemporary Arts Precincts Ltd, was honored with the GOV Gold Award for Community and Civic Architecture at the 2021/2022 Victoria Premier's Design Awards and was a finalist in the Victoria Architecture Awards. This prestigious recognition celebrates the design excellence in creating a functional, aesthetically rich, and socially impactful space, showcasing the thoughtful integration of materials, technology, and light.

Fairfield Social Housing Redevelopment by Unison Housing

Award: Affordable Development Award
Reshape Development is proud to have been the development manager for the Station St, Fairfield Social Housing Redevelopment by Unison Housing, which won the UDIA Victoria Affordable Development Award in 2021. This transformative project saw the redevelopment of a commercial building in Unison Housing's portfolio, which was in urgent need of revitalisation. The existing heritage building was restored and complemented by a new build, resulting in 38 brand new self-contained apartments, replacing a dilapidated rooming house. Completed two months ahead of schedule in May 2021, despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, this project significantly improved tenant amenity, unit yield, and the economic life of the building, delivering lasting social benefits within a tight budget.

Napier St Social Housing Redevelopment by Unison Housing

Awards: Judges’ Award, Affordable Development Award (Victoria) & Affordable Development Award (National).
The Napier Street Social Housing Redevelopment, was recognised with multiple accolades at the 2020 UDIA Victoria Awards, including the prestigious Judges' Award, Affordable Development Award (Victoria), and Affordable Development Award (National). This transformative project involved the redevelopment of a dilapidated block of 17 units into 54 modern, self-contained social housing apartments. Unison Housing's commitment to providing inclusive housing for those in need, coupled with their ability to deliver the project on a tight budget and ahead of schedule, impressed the judges. The development stands out for its high-quality design, natural light, energy efficiency, accessible features, and focus on resident wellbeing, creating a vibrant, safe, and sustainable community.

Award: High Density Development Winner
In 2017, Caulfield Heath won the High Density Development Below 10 Storeys Award at the UDIA Victoria Awards for Excellence. Reshape Development played a key role as the Development Manager for this project, overseeing the successful delivery of this transformative development. Located on a five-hectare site owned by the Melbourne Racing Club, adjacent to Caulfield Racetrack, Caulfield Heath is a prime example of thoughtful and well-executed high-density development.

The Ashwood Chadstone Gateway Project was commended at the Property Council Innovation and Excellence Awards. The project stands as a leader in its field by resolving more traditional financial covenants and metrics as part of the development equation, without compromising social gains, to facilitate more sustainable development within the sector.
